Steelers suspended All-Pro Wide Receiver’s Landing Spot…

Steelers Named Landing Spot for All-Pro WR.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be looking for a new veteran wide receiver this offseason as it’s expected they move on from Allen Robinson due to an increasing salary cap hit. But in his place, the team has been named to be a candidate for New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas.

Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection, is coming off a 39-catch season with 448 yards and one touchdown. He’s four years removed from back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, but he’s still expected to get some attention in free agency.

Pro Football Focus believes his top two landing spots are the Steelers and the Denver Broncos. And while Pittsburgh may have to compete with a reunion with Sean Payton, they are in the running to add another veteran for their slot role.

“Pittsburgh brought Allen Robinson aboard to serve as the big slot possession receiver in 2023, and while his lack of production was not entirely his own doing, perhaps the Steelers take another swing with Thomas coming in as the No. 3 alongside Diontae Johnson and George Pickens.

Moving Johnson and Pickens into the slot more to help create more separation on out-breakers like corner routes, an area Pickens excelled in 2023, adds more versatility to the whole unit,” PFF writes.

The Steelers will likely be searching for another wideout this offseason, either through free agency or the NFL Draft. Calvin Austin continues to develop, and should take a step forward in his second healthy season in the NFL, but Pittsburgh is going to want as many targets as possible for whoever their quarterback is.

Thomas is a new name to emerge, but certainly one to keep an eye on as the Steelers sift through potential veterans. Maybe he does get a shot to rejuvenate his career and bring some veteran presence to the Steelers locker room this season.
