The Chicago Bears are interviewing current Los Angeles Chargers wide receivers coach Chris Beatty to be their wide receivers coach. Beatty has only been in the NFL for two seasons.
What are his qualifications, and why would he fit in with the Chicago Bears?
Chris Beatty played wide receiver professionally, even if it was just in the CFL. He played from 1995 to 1997. In 1998, he coached high school football and moved to a few different schools until 2008, when he was hired as the Hampton offensive coordinator.
He coached running backs in 2007 with Northern Illinois, and he coached running backs with West Virginia from 2008 through 2010. He coached Noel Devine during that time.
In 2011, he coached at Vanderbilt under James Franklin and helped Joran Matthews get into the NFL. In 2013 and 2014, he was with Wisconsin as their wide receivers coach. Both Jared Abberderis and Alex Erikson made the NFL with Beatty.
In 2015, he coached Olamide Zaccheus with Virginia, but in 2016 and 2017, he was at Maryland with a receiver by the name of DJ Moore.
In 2018, he moved to assistant head coach of Maryland, and in 2019 and 2020, he went to Pitt, where he coached Jordan Addison.
That is when the Los Angeles Chargers hired him to be their wide receivers coach.
